Art journals are the perfect medium for me to simultaneously create visual and literary art. I used to think keeping a journal was all about writing, until my favorite professor, Kendra Kopelke, former Director of the University of Baltimore’s MFA Creative Writing Program, taught me how to “plork” (her made up word for play+work) with words, images and anything I could affix to a page. Kendra also helped me to release the nagging need for perfection, to trust the creative process implicitly, and to be unattached to outcomes. That’s what I call creative freedom.
In 2009, Gallery SPECTRA founder Karen Summerville curated my 33Bookz solo show of art journals and hand crafted books. And in 2018, my plorkmate Jenny O'Grady and I presented a 2-woman book art exhibit at Hamilton Gallery, titled Dos-a-Dos. That was fun!! We look forward to bringing the show to galleries, colleges, art festivals, and communities around the world.
